Transformation through Redevelopment in Newark
Highlights include: Entertainment Venues- NJPAC, Prudential Center, Riverfront Park expansion; mixed-use development- Teachers Village and the Ironbound Neighborhood; commercial development- Broad Street, Hahne’s Building, the new Prudential Office Building, Panasonic Building; Historic- James Street Commons and Military Park. Tour participants will learn about the influence of the redevelopment plans (i.e. Board Street Station, Downtown Core, Living Downtown, Newark Riverfront) on the City’s new and pending development activity (i.e. Prudential, Hahne’s Building, Military Park, Riverfront Park, etc.).
Participants will have a chance to meet with the City officials to discuss the incentive behind the update, the subsequent land use merits, challenges and lessons learned. Additionally, the Newark Community Economic Development Corporation President and/or CEO will speak to their initiatives and programs to enhance development throughout the business districts.

Invited SpeakerScott Dvorak, AICP, has been the Newark Program Director at The Trust for Public Land for the past seven years. The Parks for People-Newark program builds parks and playgrounds in Newark, NJ in partnership with the City of Newark and Newark Public Schools and in collaboration with the students and residents the facilities serve. The program has constructed 14 parks and playgrounds in Newark over its 20 year history, including Newark Riverfront Park opened in August 2013.
