You'll learn about:

  • Issues and opportunities in and around New York City from city planning directors in the region
  • The role of the director in managing the city planning function in local government
  • New innovations in leading city planning departments

This popular program has been held at the last 12 National Planning Conferences. About a dozen progressive city planning directors in the region around, and including, the host city hold an all-day retreat and then participate in this panel at the conference. The retreat topics—suggested by the participants—cover what is occupying their time and efforts, what seems to be working, and what isn’t succeeding. The planning directors benefit from an intimate, off-the-record exchange with their peers. You’ll benefit from hearing a summary of the retreat that paints a vivid picture of the state of city planning in the area.
