You'll learn about:

  • The relationship of comprehensive plans and zoning codes, as well as different approaches to coordinate the two documents

  • The strengths of various community engagement techniques, implementation approaches, and management of expectations to coordinate comprehensive plans and the land use code or city policies

  • Opportunities to update regulatory zoning requirements, and city policies created after adoption of a comprehensive plan

Too many times comprehensive plans are adopted and then remain on a shelf.  Learn from three unique communities – Aspen, CO, Greeley, CO, and Houston, TX - about how they have successfully implemented their comprehensive plans. Implementation of comprehensive plans does not happen overnight and requires additional outreach and community discussion. Learn from some hard-fought battles in integrating aspirational statements from a comprehensive plan into a community’s zoning, land use code, and community development outcomes.
