Poster: Planning with Your Local Military Installation

Monday, May 8, 2017 | 1:30 p.m. - 2:30 p.m.

As of 2015, the Department of Defense (DoD) operates and maintains over 4,000 installation areas in the United States with a total footprint of over 27,000,000 acres. DoD installations are located in hundreds of municipalities across the country and regularly update their plans and undertake new planning endeavors, which oftentimes have a large effect on the communities in which the installations are located.

This poster will serve to inform municipal planners of DoD funded planning opportunities and actions that include planning outside of installation boundaries and directly affect land use, transportation, and the environment within surrounding municipalities.

The poster will include sections on the following types of DoD plans:

       -  Joint Land Use Studies (JLUS)

       -  Installation Complex Encroachment Management Action Plans (ICEMAP)

       -  Installation Development Plans (IDP)

       - Area Development Plans (ADP)

Each section will include information regarding how to find out if the DoD has scheduled any of these planning actions at your local military installation, who to contact regarding community and municipal involvement in DoD funded planning activities that include off-base areas, an overview of the purpose of the type of plan, and suggestions on how to integrate the plans into the local planning process.
