NYC by Boat - Waterfront Orientation Tour
New York is a city of islands. Participants in this orientation tour will get to know it best by boat! From history, to ecology, to infrastructure, to architecture, to transportation, to commerce to changing uses and resiliency challenges, it all happens on the water.
Join Waterfront Alliance staff to learn about the harbor at its beating heart. They will discuss the successes and challenges of our mixed use waterways while enjoying the views and the island geography of our great port city.
The boat will depart Javits Center, northbound to George Washington Bridge, passing midtown, Riverside Park, and the Harlem waterfront revitalization. It will view the North River wastewater treatment plant and pass the Cloisters and Cross to New Jersey side.
The boat will travel southbound along New Jersey shore to the Pallisades, Hoboken, Jersey City development, Erie Lackawanna Terminal and Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty
It will cross the Harbor north past Port Newark, Staten Island, Verrazano Narrows, Governors Island and Gowanus and Red Hook, Brooklyn Bridge Park, Brooklyn Bridge and the South Street Seaport. It will pass the ferry terminal at Pier 11, the Battery and Battery Park City, the World Trade Center, Hudson River Park, Greenwich Village and Chelsea waterfront where maritime meets the arts and conclude there.
