Gary A. Hack, FAICP

Gary Hack is a distinguished educator, educational leader, and practitioner of planning. In his 45-year career in the academy he has taught urban design, headed MIT’s urban studies and planning department, been dean of the University of Pennsylvania’s school of design, and been a visiting professor at Tsinghua University and other universities. He is the coauthor of Local Planning, Site Planning, 3rd Edition, Urban Design in the Global Context, and many other publications. He also led the planning efforts for the West Side Waterfront in New York, redevelopment of Prudential Center in Boston, and other large projects.
