Martha Mason Semmes is one of Virginia’s most influential urban planners. As practitioner, community leader, teacher, and mentor, she has worked passionately and tirelessly to inspire people to improve the quality of life of their communities. With tenacity and grace, she has led award-winning projects for local and state organizations in planning, design, affordable housing, and historic preservation. She has devoted her 38-year career to promoting quality of place in the broadest sense, believing that our environment and the structure of our communities should enrich the lives of all citizens and reflect our values as caretakers of our world.
