RESOURCES
New Growing Food Connections briefing papers

Three new briefing papers are now available to help local governments grow their food systems and create healthier communities. Learn how planners can boost community food production for local markets, protect farmland as a vital local resource, and support local food economies. Other briefs in the series address local food procurement policies, food systems infrastructure, and creating incentives for sales of local, healthy foods.

APA partners with the University at Buffalo, American Farmland Trust, Cultivating Healthy Places, and Ohio State University in the USDA-funded Growing Food Connections project.

POLICY AND ADVOCACY
APA supports key legislation to aid disaster preparedness

Reps. Earl Blumenauer (D-Ore.) and Sean Duffy (R-Wisc.) introduced legislation earlier this week aimed at giving communities tools to better prepare for natural and human-caused disasters. The Safe Communities Act would create a new grant program to support state, local, and regional planning activities aimed at mitigating disasters. APA is proud to endorse this bipartisan bill.

APA and other members of the Digital Coast Partnership will join the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, Rep. Dutch Ruppersberger (D-Md.), and Rep. Don Young (R-Alaska), on Thursday for a congressional briefing on disaster preparedness. Join APA in urging your House representatives to support the Digital Coast Act by adopting their own version of the Senate bill (S.110). Take action now!
