The City of Jefferson, Missouri, is seeking applicants for a full-time city planning position in the Planning and Protective Services Department. This position will be filled at the Planner I or Planner II, depending on qualifications. The position provides professional planning support to senior planning staff in the areas of current planning/zoning and MPO/long range planning, with participation in zoning administration, plan review, maintenance of GIS layers, research, preparation of reports and exhibits, and case processing and presentation before various boards and commissions. The position may be assigned duties within the Planning and Zoning and/or Long Range Planning/MPO divisions.
The Planning Services team for the City of Jefferson is made up of the staff of the Planning and Zoning Division and the Long Range Transportation Planning/MPO Division. The team handles a wide variety of planning and development related functions including development plan review, processing of rezoning, subdivision, and variance applications, administration of zoning code regulations, development of neighborhood plans and other long range plans, amendments to the City Code on development related matters, and staff support for the Capital Area Metropolitan Planning Organization. The small nature of the team allows for involvement in a wide variety of city planning and transportation planning activities, and cross training between functions and participation in professional development opportunities is highly encouraged. The team is in the beginning phases of developing a new long range plan for the community and larger metro region. The team works closely with other divisions within the Department, including the Neighborhood Services/Property Inspection Division, the Building Regulations Division, and the Health Inspection Division, as well as other departments within the City in order to achieve the departmental goal of promoting a high quality of life for residents and creation of a positive quality of place for visitors to the Capital City.

Minimum starting salary for a Planner I is $42,964.58/year and the maximum salary for a Planner II is $67,699.20/year.
