The City of Racine Department of City Development seeks an Associate Planner to join our team of professionals dedicated to City improvement and livability.
Situated in southeastern Wisconsin along the shoreline of Lake Michigan, in the energetic Milwaukee-Chicago corridor, the City of Racine is 16 square miles in size and has a beautifully diverse population of 77,474 people comprised of all ages, multiple ethnicities and ranges in income. Racine has a thriving downtown and neighborhood commercial districts, historic neighborhoods, and an extraordinary cultural scene.
With the purpose of serving the City's continued progress, the Associate Planner reviews development proposals for consistency with regulations and guidelines; monitors projects for compliance with conditions of approval; researches short and longer range planning issues; prepares draft recommendations, draft plan, and ordinance amendments; and interacts with the residents, business owners, property owners, and peers in other City Departments. The Associate planner also provides professional level staff support to City boards and commissions, such as the Plan Commission, Downtown Design Review Commission, Landmarks Commission, among others.
The successful candidate will have expertise in the basic principles city planning, particularly knowledge of landscaping, urban design, and architecture and the ability to solve problems through design. The candidate will hold a Master's degree from an accredited program in urban planning or closely related field and two years of related experience OR a Bachelor's degree and four (4) years increasingly responsible experience in urban planning/architecture. AICP certification preferred.
The rate of compensation is $26.90 per hour or approximately $55,952 per year, depending on the candidate's level of education and experience. Benefits includes: (health and dental insurance, Wisconsin retirement, et. C,etc. )
