Canyon County is seeking experienced planners to join its team to work on a variety of issues relating to rural and small town planning, farmland preservation, zoning entitlements, and long-range planning. The Planner III will be the project manager in the update to the county comprehensive plan and provide professional planning assistance to small towns in the county. The Planner II will work on administrative and hearing level zoning applications and will have some assignments related to the comprehensive plan update.
The successful candidates will be highly involved in updating the comprehensive plan and land use codes, facilitating community meetings and subarea planning processes, and in reviewing development applications. Candidates will be team-oriented, problem solvers, and exhibit a strong desire to serve the public. Professional development is strongly supported and APA dues and AICP exam fees are provided. The department strives to provide a healthy work-life balance for its employees.
Canyon County is part of the Boise City-Nampa, Idaho Metropolitan Statistical Area, one of the fastest growing regions in the United States. The county has an extensive agricultural economy and is home to several wineries, a major potato processing facility (but of course!), and numerous food processing industries. The county's population has grown 15 percent since 2010 and is the second largest county in Idaho. The Caldwell area is approximately 30 minutes from Boise, one hour from the Bogus Basin ski area, 3 hours from Sun Valley, 5 hours from Salt Lake City and 6 hours from Portland.

Planner III - $52,389 to $61,557 per year, depending on qualifications.
Planner II - $45,017 to $52,389 per year, depending on qualifications.
Schedule: Full-time, requires occasional evening meetings.
