Norwalk Transit District is seeking a college student to serve in a part-time internship role that will support transit operations planning at a small urban transit system.
Primary responsibilities will consist of compilation and data analysis of bus ridership, ridership trends, performance metrics and other related data for use in making service system changes and enhancements. The job also involves field checks, National Transit Database, and other reporting. Frequent contact with the public. The internship is anticipated to be a 12-month period. The hours are flexible based on the candidates’ current school schedule and Norwalk Transit District needs. We anticipate a work week consisting of 20 to 25 hours per week and the potential exists to turn into a full-time position if funding permits.
Education and Experience Required:
The ideal candidate shall be in pursuit of a bachelor degree in a related field of study such as urban studies, urban planning, environmental science, or related field. Strong analytical, written and oral communication skills.
Must be able to read, write and communicate fluently in English. Frequently required to walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; stoop, crouch and kneel. The member must occasionally lift and/or move office items. The member will be required to work in an office setting sitting behind a computer, go into the field on service calls, as well as interact with customers.
There will be frequent interaction with employees and customers. The working environment is generally favorable. Lighting and temperature are adequate, and there are no hazardous or unpleasant conditions caused by noise, dust, etc. Work is generally performed within an office environment, with standard office equipment available.
