The Associate West Denver Parks Planner will perform parks planning and project management work on assigned projects under the direction of a senior-level planner in the West Denver District. The primary functions of the position include managing mid- and long-range planning processes, conducting community outreach and engagement, contributing to the annual Capital Improvement Project (CIP) planning process, and responding to citizen and Council office inquiries. While the full pay range of this Job Classification is $59,278 - $94,845, our target hiring salary for this position is between $59,278 - $77,062, depending on education, experience and qualifications.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Performs professional level planning and project management duties for small park planning projects and provides support to senior-level planning project managers on various larger planning projects, particularly in West Denver
  • Develops planning project scopes, schedules, project plans, and service contracts for small projects or parts of larger projects
  • Provides support to West Denver District Planner on various larger planning projects
  • Projects that the incumbent will be involved with will include: Martinez Park Master Plan, master planning for the new pocket park at Kentucky and Irving, Stout Street Park Master Plan, Washington Park north play area planning process
  • Assists senior-level District Planners in responding to inquiries from the public, Council offices, and other staff
  • Meets with citizen/neighborhood groups, consultants, and other city staff to gather information, determine stakeholder interests, address issues and concerns, and answer project questions
  • Schedules community meetings; prepares flyers, mailings and notices; and assists with presentation development and meeting facilitation
  • Coordinates efforts to bring stakeholders together who have opposing views and interests to successfully complete projects
  • Handles coordination and requests from maintenance and operations staff
  • Tracks Capital Improvement Project (CIP) requests and contributes to the annual CIP planning process
  • Researches and compiles information on funding sources and grants, participates in writing grant applications and funding proposals, and administers grants received
  • Conducts research and analysis on demographics, community needs, precedent studies, and national trends
  • Performs increasingly more responsible work as the employee gains experience and independently manages and provides park planning work
  • Performs other related duties as assigned

We are looking for a driven and dedicated planning professional with a passion for parks planning. Additionally, our ideal candidate will possess:

  • Master's Degree in Planning
  • Bilingual skills (Spanish highly preferred)
  • Proficiency with the following software programs: Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint; Adobe Creative Suite

  • Education requirement: Bachelor's Degree in Landscape Architecture, Architecture, Engineering, Planning, or a related field
  • Experience Requirement: One (1) year of professional city planning, landscape planning, regional planning, or experience creating, drawing, and rendering urban design plans and concepts
  • Education/Experience Equivalency: One (1) year of the appropriate type and level of experience may be substituted for each required year of post-high school education. Additional appropriate education may be substituted for the minimum experience requirements
  • License/Certifications: Requires a valid Driver's License at the time of application. Licenses and certifications must be kept current as a condition of employment
