Placemaking Planner

This position is responsible for the planning and design of Metro's transit infrastructure, including bus stops, transit centers and MetroLink Stations, and their interface with surrounding neighborhoods and communities.

This position is focused on creating vibrant, attractive, safe and comfortable spaces across the Metro transit system that are integrated into the fabric of communities across the Metropolitan region.

Required Skills

Urban Planning — Must have background including educational and professional experience working in urban design, architecture, transportation or land-use planning.

Communications — Must communicate effectively and confidently orally and in writing. Must be comfortable interacting with a wide range of audiences including the public, peers, Agency management, and political officials.

Technical — Demonstrated experience utilizing geographic information systems (GIS).

Key Responsibilities

Leads Metro's passenger amenities program — Creates standards for the "bus stop zone" and work with Service Planning to create stop typologies based on ridership, location and stop placement; Develops and oversees a program for the deployment of passenger amenities such as benches, shelters and signage across the Metro transit system; Develops a menu of investment options including funding mechanisms.

Coordinates customer-focused investments in transit facilities — Identifies opportunities that will support the goals of short and long-range planning initiatives; Pursues project funding through competitive grant applications, partnership opportunities, and funding sources; Engages key stakeholders to identify opportunities to enhance the Metro transit system through projects and partnerships.

Interfaces with land use planning — Works with internal economic development team and external partners to realize opportunities for transit-supportive infrastructure and transit-oriented development.

Required Experience/Education

3 - 5+ years in a similar role directly related preferably in the field of Urban Planning, Architecture, Urban Design, Transit Planning or Engineering.

B.A. / B.S. in Urban Planning, Architecture, Urban Design, Geography, Civil, Transportation Engineering or related field.
