  • Researches, reviews, reports and presents zoning cases, subdivision plat applications, special use permits, and zoning text amendments to Planning and Zoning Commission and City Council and variance requests to the Board of Adjustments.
  • Provides technical assistance to citizens, contractors, developers, City staff and management regarding the City's Development Ordinances, Comprehensive Plan and other plans and policies.
  • Reviews and proposes to the City's Development codes and ordinates.
  • Serves as liaison to the Board of Adjustments, Planning and Zoning Commission by preparing and presenting agenda items.
  • Site review of development applications and other projects to evaluate site conditions, existing neighborhood uses, utility and infrastructure and related information.
  • Prepares publications, notices, and ordinances for application requests.


  • Works under the direction of the Director of Development Services


Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

Education – High School / GED, Bachelors Degree in Urban Planning, Public administration or related field is required

Experience – Over 3 years of related experience is required.

License or Certificate – Valid driver's license in the State of Texas.

Special Requirements - Must be able to obtain an AICP Planner certificate within 1 year of hire.


  • Knowledge of principles and practices of planning, historic preservation, and neighborhood engagement, Federal and State law, municipal government organization and functions, and legal terminology related to development documents.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to prepare a wide range of written materials that communicate effectively to various audiences.
  • Ability to operate a computer, standard software and some specialized software.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective workplace relationships.
  • Ability to make public presentations.
