JOB DESCRIPTION

King William County is seeking an experienced and motivated planning professional to serve as Senior Planner within the County's Community Development Department. This position offers an exciting opportunity to play a key role in shaping the County's future growth and development through comprehensive planning, zoning administration, development review, and community engagement initiatives. The ideal candidate will possess strong technical knowledge of land use planning principles, zoning regulations, and development processes, along with excellent communication and project management skills. The Senior Planner will work collaboratively with County leadership, developers, residents, and regional partners to support responsible growth, preserve community character, and advance long-range planning goals that enhance the quality of life for County residents.

Requires a Bachelor's degree in urban and regional planning, geography, public administration, landscape architecture,or a closely related field from an accredited college or university, supplemented by a minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible professional planning experience in a local government or equivalent public sector setting. A master's degree in urban planning or a related discipline may be substituted for two (2) years of the required experience. An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience providing the required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered.

American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) certification is required.
