Solar Energy

The city's municipal code includes a 2010 ordinance creating the Ground-Mounted Solar Photovoltaic Overlay District, in which large-scale (250 kW) solar PV operations are permitted as of right. Application requirements include site plan and operations and maintenance plans; design requirements cover lighting, signage, and accessory structures; safety and environmental standards require emergency services plan and minimal vegetation clearing. Decommissioning of abandoned installations is required within 150 days; proponents must provide a financial surety of 125% of the costs of system removal and disposal (§240-44.2).

Grayfields Reuse and Redevelopment

The city's municipal code outlines a Shopping Center Redevelopment Overlay District, which is intended to permit the redevelopment of a large retail center. A maximum of 25% of the gross leasable area can be used for non-retail uses. Area and design standards are also laid out (§240-39).
