The city’s zoning ordinance creates a Trails and Transit Oriented Development District that extends the more widely-applied Transit Oriented District standards to contiguous areas adjacent to an off-street trail (§3-37-39-8.1). The planners view the trail as complementary to the transit use, and apply the same density and use standards across the area.

solar energy

The city's zoning ordinance permits accessory ground-mounted and rooftop solar energy systems in all residential zoning districts by right and accessory covered parking and rooftop solar energy systems in all nonresidential zoning districts by right (Chapter 3-31).

This code includes development standards for systems in residential districts (§3-31-3) requiring screening, where practical, and limiting height and development standards for nonresidential districts (§3-31-4) permitting a limited encroachment into landscaping setbacks for covered parking solar energy systems and requiring screening, where practical, for rooftop solar energy systems.
