The city's subdivision regulations address solar in the subdivision design standards. Where appropriate, conservation of energy through the use of active and passive solar systems is encouraged; streets should have east-west alignments and lots should allow structures to be built with their longest axes running east-west (Sec. 51-133.d). Subdividers may establish solar skyspace easements that run with the land to protect solar energy systems from being shaded (Sec. 51-133.e).
