Scenic View Protection

The town’s general plan includes a goal to protect scenic corridors (CD3). Goal includes improving visual character, encouraging development standards and guidelines, and shifting to underground utilities. The town subsequently published a guidance document, the Design Guidelines resource, which provides techniques to preserve visual quality along the scenic corridor.

Solar Energy

The Open Space and Conservation element of the town's General Plan includes a goal of lowering levels of energy consumption and increasing use of more environmentally friendly energy alternatives (Goal OS 5), with associated objectives of encouraging energy conservation in new construction and through retrofitting of existing buildings, utilizing passive solar design, and use of alternative energy systems, including solar space and water heating (OS5.2).

The Action Plan addresses solar access, including items to discourage the design and siting of buildings in a manner that may reduce solar access for adjacent buildings or properties (p. 11-9). Solar is addressed in the energy efficiency and equipment screening sections of the residential design guidelines, which encourage home designs and retrofitting to conserve energy through the use of active and/or passive solar energy systems and appropriate screening of solar collectors (p. 11-13).
