Age-Friendly Communities

The town’s zoning code includes a retirement community district for age-restricted, subsidized dwelling accommodations in planned separate residential areas which will be inhabited by persons similarly circumstanced (§322-49). The housing is to be specially designed and developed for such age group and located in close proximity to centralized activity centers, community facilities, or medical centers.

Solar Energy

Provisions in the town's Building Construction code chapter establish a fast-track permitting process for residential rooftop solar electric and hot water energy systems based on the process developed by the Long Island Unified Solar Permit Initiative (§112-1.3.A). The program establishes a reduced permit fee, provides for determinations within 14 days of submittal, allows for the use of the LIUSP permit application form, and creates a central registry of solar installations to assist first responders (§112-1.3.B). The ordinance describes criteria for "standard" installations (§112-1.3.C).
