ACTIVE TRANSPORTATION

The city's comprehensive plan looks to balance access and mobility between all modes, which for active transportation means expanding the robust urban bike and pedestrian networks into the suburban areas. Appendix C: Transportation details the goals, while the subordinate functional plan “Pedestrian Master Plan Appendix B: The Minneapolis Plan Goals and Policies Related to Pedestrians” gathers in one place all of the relevant active transportation elements contained in the comprehensive plan, following the comprehensive plan’s organization: Land Use, Transportation, and Urban Design.

Solar Energy

The Environment chapter of  the city's comprehensive plan includes policies of encouraging developments to utilize renewable energy sources including solar (6.3.4) and taking measures for the protection and development of access to sources of renewable energies, especially solar and wind power (6.4.4).

The Urban Design Chapter of the plan lists preserving solar access as a climate-sensitive design principle (Policy 10.23.1).

Tree Preservation and the Urban Forest 

The city’s comprehensive plan includes urban forestry policy recommendations. The Urban Canopy section of the Environment Chapter addresses educating residents on the city’s urban forest policies, achieving no net loss of canopy, protecting critical ecosystems, avoiding monocultures, setting street tree guidelines, and recognizing the benefits of urban trees.
