The city's animal code was amended in 2012 to allow the keeping of hens within the city limits (§18-3). The ordinance permits up to 6 hens on single-family residential properties, subject to enclosure requirements. No slaughtering is permitted. Current poultry owners were given 90 days to come into compliance with the regulations.

The city's animal code also allows up to 4 livestock animals on residentially zoned property of two acres or more, subject to standards (§18-4).
