The city's zoning code addresses the keeping of fowl, poultry, swine, horses, cows, and other large animals (sheep, goats, donkeys, etc. ) by residential district (ยง18.42.040). Beekeeping is permitted in rural/suburban districts, limited in low/medium-density districts, and requires a minor use permit in high-density districts; poultry (except roosters) are permitted in rural/suburban and low/medium-density districts, and require a minor use permit in high-density districts; sheep and goats are permitted in rural/suburban districts and require a minor use permit in low/medium density districts. The ordinance provides animal keeping standards that address maximum number of animals per site, minimum lot area, and minimum setbacks, as well as general maintenance and operational standards addressing sanitation and public health.
