The city code's animals chapter addresses the keeping of bees on single-family and some two-family properties (§27-3). The code provides definitions and a purpose statement. Standards of practice address water source, sanitation, and maintenance. On-site sales of honey from the beekeeper's residence are permitted subject to standards. Allowable colony density is based on lot size, starting with 2 colonies on lots ½ acre or smaller up to no restriction on lots larger than 5 acres. A two-year permit is required; application requirements include neighbor notification and certification of training completion.
