This article from the journal Tourism Management addresses the lack of a shared understanding of agritourism, which creates confusion and lessens its appeal among consumers, further hindering communication and collaboration among stakeholders. The authors surveyed residents, farmers, and extension faculty in Missouri and North Carolina to identify preferred definitional elements and types of agritourism activities. The article recommends the following definition to use in further development and promotion of agritourism: “Farming-related activities carried out on a working farm or other agricultural settings for entertainment or education purposes.”
