APA's Sustaining Places Initiative is a multi-year, multi-faceted program to define the role of planning in addressing all human settlement issues relating to sustainability. One of the core components of this initiative is an effort to develop a set of standards to help communities integrate sustainability into their comprehensive plans.

This PAS Essential Info Packet serves as a companion piece to Sustaining Places: Best Practices for Comprehensive Plans (PAS Report No. 578). It provides links to comprehensive plans from a diverse group of counties and municipalities across the country that incorporate many of the best practices identified through the Sustaining Places initiative.

The packet also provides links to a number of guides on incorporating various aspects of sustainability into comprehensive plans and a copy of the Sustaining Places comprehensive plan scoring matrix and definitions for each of the best practices discussed in PAS 578.
