Shippensburg breaks ground on 'downtown walkway'

Central Penn Business Journal (PA), 2014-07-18

Shippensburg officials say construction is ready to start on a downtown walkway that will showcase businesses.

The walkway, which will connect West King Street and the Firefighters Activity Center, promotes downtown parking and showcases area businesses, as well as the Shippensburg Historical Society , said Rebecca Yearick , downtown program services manager for the Cumberland County Housing and Redevelopment Authority .

The project was funded with $112,800 in Community Development Block Grants approved through Cumberland County . A grant from the Alexander Stewart, M.D., Foundation provided two benches, and the borough is providing trees, other landscaping and lighting.

The concrete walkway is part of the borough's downtown strategic plan, Yearick said.
