These include physical issues such as aging infrastructure, footprint reduction, and natural resource protection, as well as current policy issues such as reduced budgets, energy conservation, and sustainability. This session will also include modules on Planning Law and Planning Ethics. This workshop includes a 90 minute segment on planning law. Topics for this section include a discussion of legal terminology and several case studies. These case studies are: 1. Pennsylvania Coal v. Mahon 2. Village of Euclid v. Ambler Realty Company 3. Golden v. Planning Board of Town of Ramapo 4. Association of Sonoma County v. City of Petaluma 5. Southern Burlington County NAACP v. Mount Laurel 6. Berman v. Parker This segment also includes a group exercise in which small groups analyze an actual federal situation and various legal courses of action based on their knowledge and discussion of the above legal precedents. A discussion of federal similarities as well as differences (particularly in terms of zoning, land use development, etc.) is discussed. Attendees present their findings to the larger group, leading to analysis and discussion by all attendees. The attorney presenter provides a summary and conclusions.
