Focusing on the revitalization of downtown Dallas, which has been achieved through a balance of adaptive reuse and new construction, this session will explore the city’s and the private sector’s focused efforts to renovate aging office buildings into new residential and hotel uses and new offices. This session will bring participants into downtown Dallas to see what started the movement and discuss the planning tools to ensure continued success. Transit time from Frisco will include a presentation on the history of Dallas, historic preservation, and recent residential growth in the central business district. Once downtown, participants will walk Main Street, passing by revitalized buildings now used for offices, residential opportunities, hotels, retail, public art, and restaurants, with the walk anchored by two city parks.
