MORE SESSION DETAILS

How can planners create broad-based, inclusive growth with today's political uncertainties and challenges? Planners need tools and other resources to restore a sense of connectedness and civic engagement, support opportunity and prosperity for all, and create more just and equitable communities. This session will identify issues, challenges, ideas, and tools so planners can promote opportunity, address housing challenges, manage community change, and advance inclusive growth in their communities. The key is to foster growth and jobs in a way that promotes inclusive growth and access to opportunity. Economic mobility is just as important as economic development. The answer is not simply to move people from distressed areas but to implement policies and tools to improve communities without driving poverty elsewhere. APA, in partnership with HUD and other nonprofit organizations, worked with more than 30 cities to develop the Prosperity Playbook. The Prosperity Playbook is an online resource that identifies strategies and policies used by local governments and regional planning organizations to expand access to social and economic opportunity. This session will be the first of its kind for APA. It will offer ongoing, multi-tiered, and multi-platform engagement targeting NPC18 attendees before and after the conference.
