Communities facing the impacts of climate change require comprehensive and innovative planning approaches to adapt. But as data and methods are continually evolving, initiatives to address the hazards associated with climate change can suffer from analysis paralysis. This is especially true when working at a regional scale, where the desire for the finest data must be continually balanced. Learn how the regional planning initiatives Resilient by Design Bay Area Challenge in California and Two Rivers, One Future in New Jersey have applied new approaches to inform community action on the future threats posed by climate change, today. Explore transferable methods and resources developed through these efforts, including regional visioning, community engagement, implementation strategies, and models for cross-sector collaboration. Rating agencies have signaled that the need for such planning goes beyond the imperative of protecting public well-being and our ecological systems, but poses a threat to a community’s bonding capacity. Hear from researchers at Four Twenty Seven, who have developed risk ratings for cities and counties across the United States, about how such holistic planning efforts may help to reduce the physical impacts of climate change as well as address rating agencies’ consideration of physical climate risks.
