Solar Energy

This functional plan includes Energy and Carbon as one of its integrated focus areas and sets a goal of carbon neutrality by 2040 through efforts including long-term energy planning, efforts to reduce energy use and carbon emissions, and the use of clean renewable energy (pp. 76-83).

It recommends updating the town's zoning code to allow for commercial-scale renewable energy installations (i.e., solar farms).

Other tactics listed include providing information to building owners on funding sources for onsite renewable energy system installation and operation (Energy 003b), allowing the installation of PV panels on parking lot structures (Energy 003d), implementing programs for on-site renewable energy generation for Town facilities (Energy 003e), exploring community solar (Energy 003f), developing an interactive solar map (Energy 003g), and establishing design guidelines and standards for solar orientation (Energy 004b).
