Solar Energy

The town's zoning bylaws establishe Large-Scale Ground-Mounted Solar Electric Installations as industrial uses requiring a special permit in all districts, unless located in the Solar Overlay District (§2.C.8.b).

The code provides standards for Large-Scale Ground-Mounted Solar Electric Installations greater than 15 kW (§23); smaller accessory systems are exempt from these standards but require a building permit and must comply with other codes and standards. Systems up to 250 kW within the Solar Electric Overlay District are permitted by right subject to site plan review; larger systems and those outside the overlay district require a special permit. The code provides information on site plan review requirements and lists standards for dimensions/height, design/performance, safety/environmental, monitoring/maintenance/reporting, and abandonment/decommissioning.
