The city's animal control ordinance was amended in 2011 and 2015 to allow up to 8 hens on single-family residential and school properties (the latter prompted by a Montessori School's request). Roosters and slaughtering for other than humane reasons are prohibited. The code lists enclosure standards and sanitation requirements (§5-4-19). Free registration with the code compliance officer is required (§5-4-20).
