Creative Placemaking

This article discusses how creative placemaking efforts can expand to promote civic engagement and social change. It presents information on placemaking, belonging, and the role of artists in shaping places. Case studies from Minneapolis, New York, and Seattle illustrate how creative placemaking can successfully promote a sense of belonging in diverse neighborhoods. It recommends that creative placemaking incorporate cultural stewardship, promote social change and youth empowerment, and encourage belonging through a shared aesthetic.
