Creative Placemaking

This report focuses on the role of creative placemaking in fostering community economic development. First, it assesses how arts and culture impact economic development and summarizes economic outcomes of select case studies, including revitalizing residential markets, creating paid opportunities for residents to share language and culture, and supporting businesses through street reconstruction. Second, it explores social outcomes related to economic development, such as community participation activities, public art projects that express a community’s past and future, and engaging youth in creating public art. It concludes with recommendations for promoting arts and culture-led economic development, including developing relationships and networks, establish a place for artists to connect, and supporting local minority artists and arts organizations.
