The City of Winston-Salem is seeking Proposals from qualified individuals, nonprofit or for-profit organizations, educational institutions, or farming businesses interested in leasing and operating a city-owned hydroponics or greenhouse facility located within the city limits. The City is committed to advancing sustainable urban agriculture, food access, and workforce development while ensuring responsible stewardship of public assets.
This facility was developed using public funds to enhance food system resilience and community benefit. The City seeks a lessee that can independently manage the facility and align its use with community goals such as improving local access to healthy food, supporting education, developing workforce pipelines, and enhancing food sovereignty in underserved neighborhoods.
This is a highly visible facility with significant public interest. Operators will be expected to maintain the premises in a neat and orderly manner. Examples include no routine vehicle parking on grass, no materials stacked around the building, and ensuring additions such as rainwater catchment systems or solar panels have an appropriate appearance.
