JOB DESCRIPTION

The Senior Planner will be responsible for reviewing complex land development cases. Senior Planners review subdivisions, rezonings, author text amendments to the Zoning and Subdivison regulations and other applications related to the Comprehensive Plan and Zoning Ordinance. They guide applicants through the development process, and write staff reports advising and making professional recommendations to the Planning Commission and Board of Supervisors. This position is also part of a team of Planners that is responsible for monitoring and updating the Comprehensive Plan.

Qualifications:

Extensive professional experience and a Bachelor's degree in urban planning, architecture, or related field; Masters degree and AICP certification preferred. Knowledge of Urban Planning principles, practices, and techniques as well as planning-related ordinances, regulations, and policies. Demonstrated advanced skill and proficiency in making presentations to boards, commissions, and citizen groups; successful management of legislative review cases, review applications, and urban planning projects; demonstrated leadership skills such as proactively completing projects that benefit the County.

• Must possess or be able to obtain within thirty (30) days of hire a valid Virginia driver's license and have an acceptable driving record based on James City County's criteria.
