The village's zoning regulations define several solar-related terms (Sec. 9-2-2).

The code's chapter on accessory buildings, structures, and uses includes a section on solar energy systems (Sec. 9-12-7). Solar energy systems are permitted in any district as an accessory use, subject to standards; solar shingles are permitted in all districts and are not considered accessory structures. A building permit is required for solar energy system installation. The code provides standards for roof-mounted and ground-mounted solar energy systems that address location and height, as well as number and surface area limitations for ground-mounted systems. Systems must be kept in good repair; the village may require the restoration or removal of systems not in compliance with the code.
