The county's zoning code permits principal solar energy systems, with a discretionary use permit, in two agricultural zoning districts (§155.10). Use-specific standards address setbacks, height, bufferyards and screening, glare standards, environmental standards, aviation notification, decommissioning, and abandonment (§155.503).

It also requires residential structures in conservation subdivisions to be oriented to maximize solar gain in winter months (§155.499.L.2.i).
