Solar Energy

The city's zoning code defines "photovoltaic solar energy production facility" (§3.1).

It provides supplementary regulations for on-site PV solar energy systems (§73.1.1(5)). Systems must be accessory in nature and are permitted in all zoning districts as accessory uses, though a special exception is required for solar energy systems as accessory to nonresidential uses in residential districts. The ordinance provides locational and performance standards for roof-mounted, ground-mounted, and pole-mounted systems, as well as a decommissioning clause.

PV solar energy systems are allowed as a primary use in all nonresidential districts except for office districts with special exception approval (§92.5(35)). The ordinance lists conditions that address size of installations, screening, warning signage, undergrounding of lines, lighting, aesthetics, and decommissioning. No parking is required.
