Food Systems | Urban Agriculture

This article reviews policy and regulatory practices of urban agriculture in metropolitan and micropolitan areas. Different sections of this article summarize the literature on urban agriculture practice and regulation, address socioeconomic and environmental benefits, drawbacks, and challenges of urban agriculture, provide an overview of urban agriculture regulation in the U.S., and explore the gaps in regulating the practice. It finds that cities address policy gaps by adopting enabling ordinances, regulations on urban agriculture production, and fiscal instruments.
