Register for the Premier Planning Conference

The American Planning Association's National Planning Conference, April 25–29, 2009

CHICAGO — Registration is open for the American Planning Association's 2009 National Planning Conference, April 25 through April 29, at the The conference will be held at the Minneapolis Convention Center. APA's National Planning Conference is considered the premier educational event for planners and planning officials.

The registration deadline is Thursday, March 26, 2009.

The five-day conference is the equivalent of attending 1,000 conferences. Attendees can select from more than 300 conference sessions, 111 mobile workshops and numerous training and networking opportunities to create a truly individualized conference experience.

The conference addresses the challenges and issues facing our communities today — infrastructure, community health, climate change, and population growth and shrinkage. Anyone interested in planning is encouraged to attend.

"Planning is not optional. Now more than ever, communities need to focus on planning to help address current needs and ensure a quality of life for future generations," said Jeff Soule, FAICP, director of Outreach & International Programs.

The conference host city of Minneapolis also provides a number of learning opportunities for attendees. The city has a long history of planning and is a leader in historic preservation, establishing bicycle-friendly communities and using light rail.

Keynote speakers include Jonathan Alter, senior editor at Newsweek and a contributing correspondent to NBC News; Witold Rybczynski, architecture critic for the online magazine Slate; and a national panel of experts speaking about the country's infrastructure needs as part of APA's ongoing Rebuilding America campaign.

APA's National Planning Conference is the place for planners to learn, experience, and share information.
