For 30 years Debbie Lawlor has been a leader in regional and environmental planning in New Jersey. Her facilitation skills have led to successful multiparty agreements and mixed use projects balancing economic growth and environmental enhancement. She is known for many innovative sustainability initiatives that educate and assist municipalities, businesses, and the general public. A strong believer in volunteerism, Debbie has devoted time mentoring hundreds of planning and design students in the New York metropolitan area, held numerous civic leadership positions, and served the American Planning Association through New Jersey chapter leadership and as an AICP Commissioner. Inducted 2012.
Debbie Alaimo Lawlor, FAICP, PP has over 35 years of experience specializing in land use and environmental planning. She is the Discipline Leader for Planning Services for Maser Consulting, P.A., a multi-discipline engineering firm with a unique balance of public and private sector experience employing over 600 professionals nationwide. She manages a team of 12 planners specializing in land use planning and design, master planning and zoning, downtown revitalization and redevelopment, affordable housing, impact assessment, and community engagement. Debbie previously worked for the New Jersey Sports and Exposition Authority (NJSEA) - formerly the New Jersey Meadowlands Commission - in a number of roles including Chief Planner and Chief of Sustainability and Economic Growth. She also managed the Meadowlands Conservation Trust. The NJSEA is a state agency responsible for regional planning associated with a jurisdiction encompassing 30.4 square miles in parts of 14 municipalities in Bergen and Hudson Counties in New Jersey, as well as sports and entertainment venues around New Jersey. Debbie is a nationally certified planner and a licensed Professional Planner (PP) in the state of New Jersey. She also worked as a private sector planner in her early career. She was honored for her leadership by the Meadowlands Chamber of Commerce in 2010 and Hudson County in 2011. A dedicated member of the American Planning Association, Debbie is serving her second term as a Commissioner for the American Institute of Certified Planners . She has also been active at the national level as Vice Chair of State Planning for the Regional and Intergovernmental Planning Division and has served as 1st and 2nd Vice President, as well as Northeast Area Representative for APA-NJ. Debbie created New Jersey's Planner's Walking Tour Program to afford members first-hand knowledge of projects and sites along with networking opportunities. She was honored in 2009 with the APA-NJ Distinguished Service Award. Debbie was inducted into the prestigious American Planning Association’s AICP College of Fellows in 2012. Debbie has a B.S. in Environmental Planning and Design and a M.A. in Geography, both from Rutgers University.
