Wayfinding Signage Program

Village of Glenview

Glenview, IL

The Village of Glenview is accepting proposals for professional services to assist in the design and implementation of a wayfinding signage program that would consist of Village gateway signs, bicycle and pedestrian wayfinding signs, downtown wayfinding signs, and a Village-wide wayfinding signage program implementation plan.

A. Village Gateway Signs – a new gateway sign design (size, shape, color, materials, etc.) to signify to visitors that they were entering the Village of Glenview. The locations and number of signs would be determined as part of the process.

B. Bicycle and Pedestrian Wayfinding Signs – a new bicycle and pedestrian wayfinding sign design (hierarchy of signs with various sizes, shapes, colors, materials, etc.) consistent with other such signs in neighboring communities. The signs would be used to identify the Village's existing bicycle and pedestrian paths, routes, and lanes with the locations and number of signs being determined as part of the process.

C. Downtown Glenview Wayfinding Signs – a new downtown wayfinding sign design (hierarchy of signs with various styles, sizes, shapes, colors, materials, etc.) that highlights the downtown's traditional identity and includes natural colors and materials with sign types ranging from gateway signs to signify the limits of downtown, and auto-oriented and pedestrian signs for navigating the downtown area.

D. Village-wide Wayfinding Signage Program Implementation Plan - While the bicycle and pedestrian wayfinding signs would be installed immediately as part of grant work, an implementation schedule for the remaining signs (A & C above) is needed. Furthermore, additional wayfinding signs are anticipated in other areas of the Village, which would be modeled after the downtown sign design standards, yet with subtle changes to adequately differentiate the various commercial corridors (Waukegan Rd., Willow Rd., Milwaukee Ave., etc.). A complete implementation plan for all wayfinding would project out a process by which the installation of all new wayfinding signs would occur over time, along with a schedule that efficiently and cost effectively delivers the finished product.
