Corridor Study

North Carolina Capital Area MPO

Raleigh, NC

The North Carolina Capital Area Metropolitan Planning Organization (CAMPO) is inviting qualified consulting firms or persons to submit Project Proposals to conduct a Corridor Study for the US 401 corridor from, generally, US 421 at the CAMPO Metropolitan Area Boundary in Harnett County north to Banks Road near the future NC 540 freeway in Wake County.

For this ever-growing area of our region, CAMPO, in conjunction with the local communities along the corridor, are continually engaged in activities to keep the US 401 corridor viable and attractive for future investment opportunities that benefit commuters, the freight community, and the general traveling public. The purpose of this corridor study is to prepare a work product that will determine the ultimate cross-section and alignment of US 401; and will explore interim projects that may lead to that ultimate cross-section and alignment. The study will result in both functional and conceptual designs based on corridor segments and select intersections, and an implementation strategy that recommends short term, long term and policy recommendations that lead to successful implementation for the US 401 corridor. Of particular interest will be the functional design for the corridor that bypasses the current Fuquay-Varina municipal limits, including necessary Right-of-Way, potential interchanges and tie-in to existing facilities including NC 55, NC 42, future SR NC 751, as noted within the Southwest Area Study 2.0, and others as identified in the 2045 Metropolitan Transportation Plan (MTP).
