Area-Specific Plan

City of Belmont

Belmont, NC

The City of Belmont updated it's Comprehensive Land Use Plan last year, which recommended the creation of a new Village Center area which we have tentatively identified as "Waterfront". The plan noted the desire for tactful redevelopment of this area to capitalize on Belmont's few remaining areas of shoreline — envisioning the possibility for unique dining options, waterfront sports, parks and trails, and several complementary types.

While some additional mid-high density residential components may be incorporated into this village center master plan (ie. missing middle housing options, condominiums, livework, etc.), the existing housing stock in the vicinity should be considered when determining how much additional housing is needed to support the other envisioned uses in the plan.

Architectural aesthetics of residential and commercial components are critical to proper planning in this area to protect the community character in East Belmont. The Belmont Waterfront Village Center site is in a unique position as it is poised to take advantage of its location along the Catawba River and existing mill buildings.
