The City of Iowa City's Development Services Division is seeking a qualified planner to fill an Associate Planner position on our Urban Planning team. The Development Services Division is responsible for visionary city planning and ensuring building safety as we plan, build, and care for the City of Iowa City.

This position is newly expanded to a full-time opportunity with excellent benefits. As an Iowa City employee, you will be part of a team that is committed to impacting and serving the community. The Urban Planning team prepares long-range and strategic plans for the city's growth and development, while also serving as key implementers of these plans through code program, policy, and code adoption. The position will be engaged in both long-range and current planning assignments ranging from neighborhood planning initiatives, public engagement, consultant management, and the development, implementation, and periodic update of the City's Comprehensive Plan as well as development reviews.

The ideal candidate for this position will be an individual that is curious, creative, and capable of working in a dynamic customer-focused, deadline-driven environment that is significantly influenced by public involvement. Significant experience in long-range planning, including compelling work on municipal comprehensive plans area plans, and/or urban design plans or other walkable urban districts, demonstrated knowledge of land use, environmental, and transportation planning, together with demographic and economic research method and tools is desired. The chosen candidate will join an experienced and collaborative staff consisting of 4 planning professionals. The Neighborhood and Development Services Department is comprised of three divisions and 40+ staff members.
