Position Summary

Under general supervision, to perform entry-level technical and professional planning work related to current and advance planning functions including enforcement and interpretation of building and zoning regulations, conditional use permits and other municipal code section regulations; to explain zoning regulations to the public; to review and process applications for development; and to perform special projects as assigned.

About Hermosa Beach

We are a small beachfront city located about five miles south of LAX with approximately 165 employees. Founded in 1907, Hermosa Beach operates under the council-manager form of government and is home to about 20,000 residents. The city itself is just 1.43 square miles, but we also have two miles of sandy beach, extensive outdoor spaces, and a lively arts, music, and retail and dining scene. The weather in Hermosa is perfect year-round; it's around 70 degrees here when it's snowy, cold, or blustery elsewhere in the U.S.

Our general plan was approved in 2017 and our economic development strategy was approved earlier this year. An update of our zoning code is underway.
